The French head of state also called several leaders of the region "to express our solidarity with them."

Will his wish come true, as Israel continues its bombing of Iran? Emmanuel Macron announced that he had spoken with Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian and called for "de-escalation" to "allow a return to the diplomatic path" after the US-led strikes in Iran , in a post on X on Sunday, June 22.

The French president spoke with his Iranian counterpart , to whom he " reiterated our demand: the immediate release of our compatriots Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris" , two French citizens who have been detained in Iran for more than three years. Emmanuel Macron also explained that he had called for "de-escalation, for Iran to exercise the greatest restraint in this dangerous context to allow a return to the diplomatic path" .

"Dialogue, a clear commitment from Iran to renounce its nuclear weapons, or the risk of the worst for the entire region. This is the only path that leads to peace and security for all."

The head of state also said he called the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman, the Sultan of Oman, the President of the United Arab Emirates and the Emir of Qatar "to express our solidarity with them."
